“There are things that some players possess that you can never coach that I can’t take credit for. Marcelo Allende has so many of these attributes and, above everything else, there are two things about him. One, he’s got an incredible football brain. I think he will be a top coach, to tell you the truth. The level of tactical discussions that I have with Marcelo…he provokes my brain so much. Then, of course, because he is surrounded by very good players, the level rises because iron sharpens iron,” Mokwena said.

“The second thing about Marcelo Allende is that he is an incredible human being. The DDC was training on the B pitch. The kids were sitting and waiting for the session to start. Marcelo went, took off his cap and hand shook each and every single one of them. I watch these things and it’s the small things that matter. It’s the same human qualities that matter more than football. Being a good human being is far better than being a good footballer.”
