Is Ranga Ready to Be Second Choice When New Signing Arrives?

After Kaizer Chiefs fans booed him during their Carling Knockout encounter against SuperSport United, the question arises whether Ranga Chivaviro might be ready to play second fiddle if a new striker is signed in January?

Interestingly, Chivaviro scored one of the goals in their 4-0 win on the weekend and has been in good form for Amakhosi this season so far.

With the fans putting pressure on the former Marumo Gallants striker, and with him still delivering with goals, Chivaviro is showing that his mentality would be strong with extra competition at Amakhosi.

Insiders close to the player and Chiefs have indicated that the technical team’s plan is to have a two-striker system when they sign a new striker, which means they can still start with Chivaviro and a new striker, when required.

“To tell you the truth, for now he is the first choice striker. Wandile (Duba) as a winger or second striker and it could be very hard to just move him from first choice to the bench,” the Siya source stated.

“Actually, what the coach has been looking at since his arrival was to have two top strikers playing alongside each other. So, if a new striker comes in then he would join Ranga upfront and they will play with two strikers and change to a 4-4-2 system which they are not using now because Ranga is the only outright striker that coach Nabi is using.

“He is supported by Duba who comes in from from the wings. So there is nothing for Ranga to worry about at all. He will still be preferred to start under coach Nabi,” the source added.

A second insider stated that the coach believes in Chivaviro, and that’s why even the player himself is performing much better when compared to last season.

“Ranga is the first choice striker. The coach has seen what he can do to help the team not only by scoring but also creating chances as well. He is already the top goalscorer at the club. He has scored two goals in three games. Last season he scored only four the whole season!” said the second insider.

“Then how can you bench that striker just because you have signed a new one? Coach Nabi believes in him and as a player he has also changed a lot in his approach and attitude in matches. That’s what is helping him going forward,” the insider added.

Soccer Laduma had previously reported that the club is happy with the striker, which is why they are believed to have taken initiatives to exercise his one-year option and give him another year to stay at the club.
