It is reported that Wydad Athletic Club have reminded coach Rulani Mokwena to avoid getting involved in certain matters following recent tensions with some of the team’s supporters.

Pressure in Moroccan football can be relentless, and Mokwena has recently faced criticism from supporters due to the team drawing their last three league matches.

Tensions escalated during Wydad’s 2-2 draw with FUS Rabat on Monday, when a section of disgruntled fans threw objects at Mokwena and his team after the match.

In his post-match press conference, the South African tactician urged supporters to show more backing, but his comments only intensified the situation.

Wydad’s ultra fans issued a letter to the club addressing the team’s recent lack of victories, as well as Mokwena’s remarks about their behaviour.

It is now reported that a source within the club has revealed that the matter was discussed internally between management and Mokwena, and the coach was reminded to avoid commenting on certain issues.

According to Kooora, a source said, “The club’s management is not happy with the recent league results and held a meeting with the coach to discuss several issues, including poor results, declining performances, and the lack of stability in team selection for matches.

“The club president emphasised in his meeting with Mokwena that he has received unconditional support that his predecessors at Wydad did not enjoy. The club also signed 29 players for him during the summer and winter transfer windows, with the aim of securing second place to qualify for the CAF Champions League.

“Mokwena was warned about the club’s dissatisfaction with his gestures towards the supporters during the match against FUS Rabat in response to their criticism of the team’s performance.

“He was reminded that he should not get involved in such matters. He will, however, continue his duties until the end of the season with the same objectives.”
