A lot of pressure has been placed on the South African tactician to lead the Red Castle back to the summit of Moroccan football after the club suffered its worst league finish in a decade last season.
The record Botola Pro champions lost their first league match of the campaign, but have been undefeated in all competitions ever since.
This past weekend, Wydad got back to winning ways in the top flight when they defeated Difaa El Jadida 4-1, a result that has taken them to second place on the log.
The match did not start in favourable fashion for Wydad, though, as they went down 1-0 to their opponents in the 39th minute.
Mokwena’s charges were able to equalise shortly before half-time, however, as Nabil Marmouk connected to a Nassim Chadli corner.
The game completely changed after the break as Wydad ran riot in the second stanza, scoring three unanswered goals.
That second-half performance was largely due to the South African tactician’s words in the dressing room, according to defender Zakaria Nassik.
The left-back has claimed that the former Mamelodi Sundowns manager was furious at half-time, and that spurred the team to do better when they returned to the pitch.
“As for the match, the coach gave us a harsh speech between the two halves. He is not lenient with us and always wants more,” the Moroccan said after the encounter, as per El Botola.

“His words are what pushed us to score goals from the beginning of the second half.”
