Nabi reveals Chiefs plans for weekend amid Royal AM’s clash suspension
February 19, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed the team’s plans for the weekend since their next opponents, Royal AM, had all their games suspended.

Financial woes have kept Thwihli Thwahla off the field recently with the league’s mother body having responded by suspending all of the club’s fixtures until further notice.

As a result, the AM’s home game against Amakhosi in the Betway Premiership, scheduled for Friday at Harry Gwala Stadium, will also not take place.

In that match, Chiefs would be hoping to shake off Tuesday’s 4-1 SuperSport United humiliation at FNB Stadium. Now, next up for them in the league is champions Mamelodi Sundowns on 1 March at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Speaking to the journalists after the match against SuperSport, Nabi said they will grant the players a break ahead of the upcoming weekend. He added that they hope to arrange a friendly in which they will also assess those who have not had much game time.

WHAT CHIEFS WILL DO THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND

“Yes, definitely we’re going to give the players some time off,” said Nabi during the post-match press conference.

“We will try to organise, if possible a friendly game, to allow other players also to see how they can come into the games and let us know if they are ready for next games to come.”

Nabi acknowledged that Chiefs deserved a defeat to Matsatsantsa, citing their poor performance.

However, he also felt they had inadequate time to recover for the match while SuperSport had almost the whole week. Gavin Hunt’s men had last played on Wednesday while Chiefs were last in action on Saturday.

NABI SAYS THEY DIDN’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO RECOVER BEFORE SUPERSPORT MATCH

“It was the difficult game from the first minute and already we could see that it was an off game for us,” he stated.

“I cannot give excuses all the time but I believe we didn’t have enough time to recover two days [Sunday and Monday] but the other team had a week at least.

“And it’s a deserved defeat for us but you can see that mentally we were not up to standard and we cracked. Unfortunately, we can see that the result is also a painful one for us.”
